Shape Type: Breakfast & Tea Wares Pattern Type: Literature, Classical, Mythology, and the Arts Date: 1825-1830 Dimensions:
Maker: John & William Ridgway Maker's Mark: Description: A bone china slop bowl from a tea service; it is decorated with a purple printed design that appears on each side of the bowl. The pattern depicts a young woman on a seesaw balanced at the other end by cupid, perhaps symbolic of the ups and downs of love! Painted in red on the base is a fractional pattern number, typical of those found on Ridgway teawares, and this piece matches other tea service pieces of distinctive shape known only from the Ridgway factory. |
