|
Shape Type: Miscellaneous Pattern Type: Chinese, Asian and Other Exotic Themes Date: 1795-1805 Dimensions:
Maker: Unknown Description: A large earthenware jug printed in black with two line-engraved patterns: Chinese Adults is printed on both sides as shown in this first image and the Buffalo, or Boy on a Buffalo pattern is printed under the spout (see below). Three different border designs were used on this jug: the Brick and Garland pattern and a honeycomb pattern printed on the exterior; the latter was also used on the handle and an unnamed design printed on the interior. Minnie Holdaway attributed the jug to Swansea based on a similar jug, shown in her article published in Welsh Ceramics in Context Part II, p. 95, (Jonathan Gray, editor) and the identical pattern found on a two-handled loving cup printed in Chinese Adults pattern in the collection of Sir Leslie Joseph. |
