Description:

This earthenware soup plate is No. 12 in the Arman's numbering system. The view that appears on this bowl is also found on several sizes of platters, an under tray, a pitcher and two sizes of bowls, including a large wash bowl. This bowl has 13 of the original 15 states' names used in this design.  All 15 names generally appear on large pieces, such as platters.

The central pattern on this example is taken from the source print shown below.   Prior to discovery of the source prints that Clews used for these patterns, researchers David and Linda Arman endeavored to provide descriptive names for them.  The Armans named this scene Mansion, small Boat with Flag in Foreground.
