Underglaze
Printing on porcelain 1750-1800
|
Shape Type: Dinner & Dessert Wares Pattern Type: Chinese, Asian and Other Exotic Themes Date: 1760-1765 Dimensions:
Maker: Bow Description: An octagonal dinner plate printed in underglaze with a pattern known as La Dame Chinoise and a cell border interspersed with four floral sprays. Despite the Bow factory concentrating on the middle-class market, it made surprisingly little use of underglaze blue printing and surviving examples are comparatively rare. La Dame Chinoise is also found in underglaze blue at Derby and was first used as an overglaze print on early Worcester mugs in the later 1750s. It is also recorded on Champion's Bristol porcelain. |
