Maker: Enoch Wood & Sons Maker's Mark: Description: An earthenware plate printed in blue with the named view Luscombe, Devon. Luscombe Castle was never intended for military use. It is a good example of the picturesque, Neo-Gothic Revival style architecture. Designed by John Nash (1752-1835) in 1800 for Charles Hoare, the banker, it remains in the Hoare family to this day. Luscombe is a castellated mansion with a large Gothic porch and a central tower. The landscape garden was designed by Humphrey Repton (1752-1818). |
