An earthenware plate printed in red with an all-over floral design along with a center medallion printed in green showing the Seal of the United States, the Eagle, Shield and motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (Out of Many, One). Printed around the rim of the medallion are the words "OUR STRENGTH IS IN OUR UNION, LET NOT OUR FOES DIVIDE US" separated into sections broken by two hands in a handshake. The mark indicates that this was made by Mayer while at Stoke-on-Trent, before he moved to Longport in 1837.
