Description:

An earthenware platter printed in blue in the Monk's Rock Series, Tenby pattern. Minton designed the pattern from a scene depicted in  Middiman's "Select Views of Great Britain" published in 1813. The large rock, also known by the Norse name Giltar or Gildar, is commonly called Monk's Rock, due probably to an association with a Benedictine priory on nearby Caldey Island. Tenby is a seaport and tourist destination in Pembrokeshire, on Camarthen Bay on the southwest coast of Wales. Even in the 19th century the spot was famous for sea bathing, as testified in this view by the horse drawn bathing boxes, which were backed into the water and allowed swimmers private access. This is one of at least 13 known patterns in the series.
