Maker: Minton Maker's Mark: Description: This large platter is printed in blue in the Camel and Giraffe pattern. Although it does not bear a maker's mark, it is attributed to Minton based on the discovery of an engraved copper plate with this design in Minton's inventory. The printed mark added by the maker is for James Donovan, a successful glass and china merchant and decorator at George's Quay, Dublin, Ireland, who had his mark printed on the piece for marketing purposes. Geoffrey Priestman has identified the source of the Camel and Giraffe pattern as being Bewick's engravings of the Arabian Camel and the Cameleopard from his General History of Quadrupeds.
