Description:

This Isleworth porcelain saucer is printed with a version of Les Garcons Chinois.  Although this pattern is probably inspired ultimately by Pillement's chinoserie engravings, this Isleworth version is likely to have been more directly influenced by the similar designs used on Worcester porcelain.  These are mainly black on-glaze prints, although some have added coloring.  A few Worcester examples were printed in underglaze blue.  The Isleworth print is not so finely engraved as the Worcester version and there are substantial variations to the design.

Although the small Isleworth factory made considerable use of printing in underglaze blue, this particular design is rare, only being recorded on two saucers.
