Description:

Tile of earthenware transfer-printed with some additional painting, depicting an apple blossom design in brown, green and yellow. Registry mark for 24th December 1879 identifying the manufacturer as Sherwin & Cotton, Hanley. Nature was a design inspiration for many decorative arts in the Victorian period. This design is similar to patterns found on wallpaper and textiles of the period, bringing the aesthetic of the natural world inside the home.
