Maker: Minton & Co. Description: Tile of earthenware. Dust-pressed. Transfer-printed with citrus fruits and foliage on a green background. The surface of the tile is matte.The stylized floral design is typical of the Aesthetic movement. The Mintons China Works catalog of ca. 1885 described this design as a pattern ''of the New Patent "MOROCO" Tiles [which] may be done in all tints of Colour. The surface being Granulated and Semi-Vitreous the Mat or Deadened effect is suitable for those purposes where Glazed Tiles are objectionable.'' Makers mark on the reverse 'MINTONS / CHINA WORKS / STOKE ON TRENT' Referenced in "Minton Tiles: Selected Patterns of Enamelled Tiles..." reprinted by Richard Dennis, Shepton Beauchamp, 1996, sheet 1, no. 1569. This example is known to have been removed from a house in Baron's Court, West London.
