Maker: Maw & Co. Description: Tile of earthenware transfer-printed. Four-square design with a cruciform plan printed in shades of grey-green and a darker green. In the top is a section of stylised leaves and a flower-head, repeated with variations below. Maker's mark on the reverse in relief "MAW & CO / BENTHALL WORKS / [and a circular device] 'FLOREAT / MAW / SALOP" Aside from Mintons, Maw & Co. were one of the most successful factories producing tiles. Production was established at Benthall Works, Broseley, nr. Jackfield, Shropshire from 1852-83, then at Jackfield until 1969.
