Maker: Maw & Co. Description: Transfer printed dust pressed tile with a design of flowers in naturalistic style including a poppy, printed in brown on an off-white ground. This design emulates botanical drawings. The study of the natural world was a preoccupation for the Victorians, who would have appreciated the detailed depiction of flowers. Aside from Mintons, Maw & Co. were one of the most successful factories producing tiles. Production was established at Benthall Works, Broseley, nr. Jackfield, Shropshire from 1852-83, then at Jackfield until 1969. |
