Description:

This pair of molded vases were purchased from a sale of items from Syon Park, the Duke of  Northumberland's London house.  Although cataloged as Pennington's Liverpool, they were recognized as Isleworth porcelain by the London dealer Roderick Jellicoe.  The vases are printed with Isleworth's version of the Gilliflower pattern and subsidiary prints of moths and flowers. There is a painted 4 mark to the underside of one foot. Subsequently, wasters matching these vases were discovered at the Hounslow site, from where the factory obtained clay and dumped some of its waste material, thus confirming the attribution.

Syon House is only a short distance from the factory site and it seems likely that these vases were purchased directly from the factory.  Isleworth seems to have produced few decorative wares and these vases are currently the only known survivors.
