An earthenware slightly domed advertising pot lid multiple-plate multicolor printed by hot press with a waterscape. The text printed on the lid is as follows: “J. S. Fry & Sons / Bristol / Superior Chocolate Paste / Chocolate Makers to the Queen”. Printed on the waterscape itself is “Napirima Trinidad” indicating the location of the scene. Napirima was a large cocoa bean growing area, with Port of Spain being the main port. Joseph Fry began producing chocolate in 1759. By 1835, the company was named J.S. Fry & Sons. In 1847, the Fry's chocolate factory, located in Union Street, Bristol, England, molded the first ever chocolate bar suitable for widespread consumption. By 1919 the company merged with Cadbury's Chocolate.
