Description:

A miniature advertising plate printed in blue with the Standard Willow Pattern border. Printed in the center of the plate is the following:  "THOMAS GIBSON, WHOLESALE & RETAIL GLASS AND CHINA. EARTHENWARE MERCHANT, WAREHOUSE & SHOW ROOM, 49 CHAPEL STREET, SOUTHPORT".  The amusing placement of the word "AND", intended to appear between "GLASS" and "CHINA" was probably done to achieve symmetry of design on the plate.  W.T. Copeland may have been the manufacturer based on surviving records indicating dealings with this retailer. Also noted was an advertisement in the Southport Trades Directory in 1894 with almost identical wording as on the plate.
