Description:

This bowl is attributed to the Cockpit Hill pottery in Derby.  This was separate from the main Derby porcelain factory and produced mainly earthenware.  However, a small quantity of porcelain was also produced.  This can be of rather poor quality and show little translucency.  The wares are decorated with underglaze blue prints.

This bowl is printed on the inside with four floral swags and the Fence pattern.  The outside is decorated with another version of the Fence, the Plantation Print and an interesting design of a cantilevered garden house, that is also found on Bow porcelain.

The attribution of this bowl has been fully discussed by Geoffrey Godden in Derby Porcelain International Society Journal 6, 173-186 (2009).
