Chinese Export Porcelain Original The design on this hand-painted Chinese soup plate was the source for both the Mandarin (Willow Nankin) and Standard Willow patterns. It was named Two Birds by H. A. Crosby Forbes during his research of Chinese blue and white patterns. It was copied on porcelain c. 1780 at Caughley and known as Willow-Nankin. The second company to produce the pattern was Spode. It was printed on pearlware, bone china, and stoneware. |

Maker: Spode Maker's Mark: Description: A tall urn-shaped bone china coffee pot printed in medium blue in the Mandarin II pattern with Trellis and Dagger border and gild decoration added overglaze. The shape of this coffee pot is recorded in the 1820 Shape Book on page 69. The Mandarin pattern continued to be made by Copeland on earthenware and bone china throughout the 19th century and by many other manufacturers continuing into the 20th century. |
