Description:

Creamware jug, one of a pair decorated with black printed designs. One side has a stock print of a ship inscribed The Two Brothers, of Kittery/ Jno. Follett Master, The ship, Two Brothers, was built in 1805 and first appears in the Lloyd’s Marine Insurance records in 1806, with John Follett listed as her master.  She is also listed in 1807 and 1812 editions, always sailing between Massachusetts and Liverpool. The ship print is over painted with enamel colors.

Beneath the lip is the printed mark of the Herculaneum factory, Liverpool. It comprises an American eagle derived from the Great Seal of the United States above the word HERCULANEUM.

On the reverse is a print entitled APOTHEOSIS depicting the apotheosis of George Washington who died 14 December, 1799.

 The pair to this jug is inscribed beneath the spout “R; FOLLETT” and “PRESENTED BY JOHN FOLLET 1806.” indicating was a gift from John to his brother Robert.
