The house was built in the 1690s by the 2nd Earl of Nottingham, who was to a large extent his own architect and involved himself in the minutiae of construction. |

Prior to discovery of the source prints that Clews used for these patterns, researchers David and Linda Arman endeavored to provide descriptive names for them.
