Maker: Ralph & James Clews Maker's Mark: Description: A 10 inch earthenware plate printed in blue underglaze with overglaze enameling in several colors. The plate rim has also been enameled in brown. The pattern is a version of the Bird Catcher. In the center of this overall pattern is a large Chinese figure holding an extended pole with a bird perched at the end of it. The bird is enticed to perch on the pole by the fruit that hangs from it. A companion bird keeps watch on a branch above. Clews is known to have also produced this pattern on an ironstone body. |
