Shape Type: Dinner & Dessert Wares Pattern Type: Genre Scenes Date: 1756-58 Dimensions:
Maker: Vauxhall Description: A Vauxhall polychrome printed plate of lobed shape. The main transfer print is within a scroll work panel and depicts two people in a wooded landscape with buildings, and surrounded by scattered European flowers and insects. The source of the print is unknown. This type of polychrome printing seems to be unique to Vauxhall. It involved the overglaze printing of two or more colors in outline, most often brown, pink or sepia, which were then filled in with hand-painted coloring. For more information see the English Ceramic Circle publication, Ceramics of Vauxhall, 2007. |
