Maker: Unknown Description: An indented white salt-glazed stoneware plate, the rim molded with a star and dot diaper. The center printed with a scene of a bird-seller, the young man with a cage, the young woman with a bird perched on her left hand. Probably printed at Battersea, London where a print of this subject was found on Chinese porcelain. Stephen-Theodore Janssen of Battersea had "Copper-plates, beautifully engraved by the best Hands; some hundred Dozen of Stone Plates"in an advert of his bankruptcy sale in 1756. |
