Maker: Unknown Engraver: Wear Engraver's Mark: Description: A rectangular pearlware well and tree platter printed underglaze in blue in the Chinese Market Stall pattern with overglaze enameling in rust red and ochre enameling on the rim. The added coloring is uncommon on a pattern of this type. The scene depicts Chinese figures at a market stall. The border is of strip form including rococo motifs. Examples of this pattern are known both with and without the engraver's name 'Wear Sc.' at the end of a fence in the design. [Not present on this piece, however an example with the engraver's mark printed underglaze in a single blue color is also included in this exhibit and shown below.] |
