Description:

A sanitary ware water closet with an underglaze printed floral decoration in an inky blue, a popular color of the period.  The main floral pattern is framed with a grapevine border.   The printed pattern is generously applied all around the piece.  Dent & Hellyer was a successful manufacturer of a variety sanitary devices and supplies. The company, which began in the early part of the 19th century was operating as Dent & Hellyer by 1874.  They were still in business in the 20th century.
