Description:

A large earthenware umbrella stand printed in blue with the Standard Willow pattern with blue ground painted border accents.  There are three repeats of the central pattern in linear form, each one is framed with the outer Standard Willow border consisting of geometric motifs with Oriental symbols.  This stand, because its mark includes "England", would have been produced after 1890, when the McKinley Tariff Act was passed requiring all goods imported into the USA to be marked with the country of origin. The dates given this piece are c1891-1900.  The second printed mark, the stylized "D" in an oval is a rare, previously unrecorded mark.
