Description:

An earthenware plate printed in black and purple in a pattern named CALEDONIA.  The pattern name is printed on the back along with an impressed ADAMS mark.  The plate features one of the many scenes from the William Adams and Sons Caledonia Series. "Caledonia" was the Roman name for northern Britain and was also a name used in poetry to describe the Scottish Highlands. The series includes a number of Scottish stag hunting scenes inside a medallion border.  The first known record of this pattern is on a shipping record dated May 8, 1835.
