The plate features one of the many scenes from the William Adams and Sons Caledonia Series. "Caledonia" was the Roman name for northern Britain and was also a name used in poetry to describe the Scottish Highlands. The series includes a number of Scottish stag hunting scenes inside a medallion border. The first known record of this pattern is on a shipping record dated May 8, 1835.
