Artist:  Jean Baptiste Pillement. From The Ladies Amusement, or Whole Art of Japanning Made Easy, first edition published by Robert Sayer, London, 1759,  This image is from a facsimile of the second edition of 1762, published in 1966, page 54.  The transfer printed pattern follows quite closely the original source print.

Description:

A molded and indented pearlware dinner plate printed in blue in a line-engraved pattern given the name The Apothecary.  The inner border is printed in the Butterfly or Moth pattern with the outer border consisting a six floral sprays.  This pattern can also be seen in the exhibit in a printed and painted version with a different border.  The source of the pattern is a Jean...
