Source Description:

The source print, Polar Bear, is copied from A Cabinet Of Quadrupeds by John Church, 1805. The artist is Julius Caesar Ibbetson and the engraver is James Tookey.

Shown here is the vegetable tureen with its lid.  The lid pattern is composed of stylized leaves and flowers against a diamond or crosshatch background.  Notice that there is no pattern on the outside of the tureen base. The finial is a molded rose.

Description:

An earthenware vegetable tureen with cover (see below) printed in blue with the Polar Bear pattern.  This same central pattern was printed on a large platter which is included in this exhibit.  The border surrounding the cartouches is patterned with stylized leaves and flowers against a diamond or crosshatch background.  The animals in both the center and the border cartouches were copied from A
