The source of the ship print is a 1788 engraving of Benton Castle, Milford Haven by William Watts after Paul Sandby.

Description:

This is a rare example of Caughley porcelain bearing overglaze printing.  The print, in orange/red enamel, depicts a two masted sailing vessel.  This mug was a special commission and is inscribed Edwd. Turner 1795 in black enamel. There is a tradition that the mug was made for the brother of Thomas Turner, the proprietor of the factory, who was an Indian Army surgeon.
