Description:
An earthenware cup and saucer printed in black and painted underglaze in a pattern named Siam. The size of these items is unknown. The mark on the saucer is probably an example of the early use of the beehive mark by Burgess & Leigh. The name Siam is listed as a Burgess & Leigh pattern dating before 1888; reference Burleigh, the Story of a Pottery by Julie McKeown. The company was located at Central and Hill Potteries from 1862 to 1888. The later beehive marks employed by Burgess & Leigh placed the words "Hill Pottery" above with the initials of the maker below the beehive. The pattern name is found on the ribbon in the mark.
