An earthenware plate printed in dark blue in a pattern known as Union Line #2.  It is from the Shell Border Series with Grotto-Shaped Center.  This plate is similar to another Wood pattern known as Union Line #1, but there are marked differences in the waves, clouds, shoreline, and the rope running from the ship to the small boat.  The old Union Line was formed in 1820 to run between Philadelphia and New York. It was the most popular of all the lines between those two cities.
